Being in pain is the worst! Whether it’s back pain, nerve pain, joint pain, migraines, dental pain, sciatica, osteoarthritis, carpal tunnel pain, period pain, no matter what the pain is it sucks. And being pharmacists we see it all and we just fell so sorry for these people just getting through each day the best they can manage their pain. That’s why we got pretty excited when we heard about PEA (palm-it-Oyl-ethanol-amide)a natural pain relief alternative. This heavily studies molecule has been found to have anti-inflammatory, neuroprotective, anti-nociceptive and anticonvulsant properties, basically meaning it’s good for all pain conditions. The good news too is that it’s natural and safe with no interactions so it can be taken with existing pain killers to further alleviate pain.
So, how does PEA work? The main target of PEA is the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha, in English, this means the receptor gene network that controls pain and inflammation. So PEA binds to this receptor and numbs out the pain response, it also helps settle down pain signaling through the nerves as well as many other actions on the pain network in the body. This explains why PEA is so effective in treating many different types of pain.
Our experience with EPA so far is very promising and we have been pretty excited about the results our patients are getting. So far we have used PEA to treat
